This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare and install leadlight and stained glass in structural and other architecturally engineered applications.

This unit applies to individuals working with designed glass.

Licensing, legislative or certification requirements may apply to this unit and relevant state/territory and local government agencies should be consulted to determine any necessary certification or licensing for undertaking glass and glazing work. Access to construction sites requires certification of general induction training specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction for Construction Work (ASCC 2007).

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.

Identify and address on-site difficulties in accordance with regulations and enterprise agreements 
Identify special characteristics of the leadlight and stained glass aperture in relation to the effect of the fitting process on the finished job 
Apply covering material to protect existing fixtures and fittings in accordance with workplace procedures 
Fix leadlight and stained glass to the frame or opening using the selected method 
Apply solvents and sealants in accordance with manufacturer instructions 
Clean leadlight and stained glass and/or frame after fixing using appropriate cleaning agents 
Check completed installation to ensure compliance 
Check completed installation for compliance with customer requirements and specifications 
Clean and store tools, equipment and materials in accordance with workplace procedures 
Clean work area and leave in a safe condition and dispose of or recycle waste in accordance with workplace protocols 
Accurately complete required workplace documentation
